Business coaching to help you define plans and direction | Phil Drinkwater

Improve plans and clarity of direction

Business owners often think they should know everything and when employees ask “what next” they’re expected to have that answer.

But it can be incredibly tricky to know how to move forward at some times. There can be a multitude of paths. Which one of the right one?

We work together to define the outcome that’s right for you, and evaluate the paths which are open to you, as well as lifting the lid off some which you may have discounted.

5 reasons your business isn't clear about the path forward

1. You don't know in detail what the end goal is

Business owners might think they know what the outcome is, but regularly in coaching, it's clear that they don't really know what they want, which can be very confusing and lead to self-sabotage.

2. The way forward is more like a jungle than a path, and it's confused

With pros and cons all over the place, what could be a simple decision has become increasingly complicated and unclear, and you're unsure how to fix this, which is causing procrastination and avoidance.

3. Some paths might be desirable, but have significant negatives which seem insurmountable

Maybe you know that there's a path you want to take, but it has a significant challenge, such as public speaking, and you don't believe it's possible to navigate this successfully.

4. You're in or just moving out of survival mode, and growth hasn't been on your mind

Sometimes, businesses struggle and the owner and their teams enter "survival mode". During this time, the future isn't really considered, and all plans are focused on ensuring that you last another day. When that's happening regularly, it's essential to examine why.

5. Something else... together let's discover the reason your business isn't clear about its direction.

Of course, I can't list every reason here. Let's discover the unique situation you're in.

What's the reason these challenges occur?

Business owners aren't perfect; they do their best with what they've got

You should be incredibly pleased that you've made it this far! Well done!

But something isn't quite as it should be, and maybe planning isn't your strength

Not everyone plans in their life, and maybe your business existing has been more a series of happy accidents rather than a designed outcome? That's perfectly OK, but is it time to change?

These personality traits are holding your business back

Over time, your business can start to stuggle.

What they say..

“I’m doing really well. Probably the best I’ve been. I have to thank you for the tools you’ve given me to deal with issues.”

An invented example:

Let's imagine that you're not a planner; this isn't particularly a skill of yours

You've been successful so far, but you're aware that the next step will take something a little more structured.

You may have tried to write a business plan using a template, but you recognise it doesn't help you

Surely a business plan will help you, but you found yourself just writing for the sake of it, and it didn't lead to any conclusions

You might have asked your employees what they would do, but they don't know the outcome

Your staff didn't really know what you want, so their thoughts were about success in their role only. This was useful, but not what was needed.

Deep down, you feel you should already know how to do this

You've not reached out so far because you feel like it's your job and you haven't liked to say, so you kept quiet and ignored the issue.

In business coaching, we start at the end, with your life and how your business fits in

Eventually though, you realised avoidance isn't going to provide success, and we work together on a clear end goal for your life.

Then we define what the end goal for your business looks like, 2-3 years hence

Then we look at mid-term goals for your business, so we've something to head towards.

We then work both backwards and forwards to find paths that will deliver success

Reverse engineering and evaluating paths based on attributes allow us to create an initial direction of travel, which can be reevaluated periodically.

What they say..

“The difference from my first session to now is life changing for me. The growth is so wonderful”.
